UR Evolution Sports is an initiative of the Urban Rec Society, a not for profit organization founded to work in alignment with the Sport For Life model in advancing recreational sport participation, sport infrastructure and employment opportunities in the recreational sport space so that everyone can engage in sport for life.

Job Title:         Program Coordinator, Rec Sports

Term:               June 1 – August 31

Hourly Wage:   $18/hour

Hours:              10 - 20 hours/week; normally Sundays, Tuesdays, Thursday afternoon/evenings

Location:         First 2-3 weeks will be virtual and remainder will be @ South Surrey Athletic Park

Role Summary:

As a Program Coordinator you will help deliver FUN and CASUAL team sports for teenagers in South Surrey/White Rock. During the first month, you will help UR Evolution Sports determine how to best meet the sport needs of local teens and create a buzz within our community. Then, you will coordinate and lead those sporting activities during the summer months.

Key Responsibilities: 

• Under the guidance of UR Evolution’s resident entrepreneurs and sports leaders; Chris McNally and Jamie Taverner:
  • Conduct market research: what do potential participants want?
  • Help design the sport programs
  • Help with outreach and advertising to potential participants/customers
  • Learn about the financial considerations of running sports activities
  • Plan how to run sports activities given the facilities, equipment and schedule constraints
  • Consider safety aspects including ensuring that programs meet all COVID guidelines
• Use Social Media and other community building tools to reach target participants and to help create buzz around UR Evolution.
• Collaborate with peers (other Coordinators and Sport Leaders) and make group presentations.
• Train and guide volunteers (Sport Leaders) in equipment set-up and customer service.
• Meet, greet and direct participants to their venues and respond to inquiries.
• Coordinate the safe set up and take down of applicable equipment.
• Complete end of day reporting (scores, incidents, facility/equipment issues).

Required Attributes: 

Positions are funded by the Canada Summer Jobs Grant program and are intended to target applicants between the ages of 15 years and 18 years old as of May 1, 2023. Candidates must be willing and able to meet the schedule requirements for the role and arrange their own transportation for all field shifts.
