UR Evolution Sports is an initiative of the Urban Rec Society, a not for profit organization founded to work in alignment with the Sport For Life model in advancing recreational sport participation, sport infrastructure and employment opportunities in the recreational sport space so that everyone can engage in sport for life.

Position:          Sport Leader (volunteer position)

Term:               June 1 – August 31

Hours:              ~10 hours/week; Sundays, Tuesdays, and/or Thursday afternoon/evenings

Location:         Combination of virtual and on-site at South Surrey Athletic Park

Role Summary:

The Sport Leader position is an opportunity for high-school students to get volunteer hours and valuable experience by promoting and participating in a fun new recreational sports program for teens in South Surrey/White Rock. In this role, you will have an opportunity to learn about the process of starting up a business and you will help coordinate and support sporting activities for high school aged participants like yourself during the summer months.

Key Responsibilities: 

• Participate in online sessions with UR Evolution’s resident entrepreneur and coach, Chris McNally, and the other UR Sport Leaders to learn about the business planning process
• Provide input to the program planning process, including making presentations to your peers and UR Evolution staff about your ideas
• Come out and play! Participate in fun, co-ed sports with your friends and other participants
• Be a welcoming “face” of UR Evolution, greeting participants, coordinating teams, playing with new people and groups, and helping out where needed to ensure a positive experience for participants
• Help ensure the safety of all participants by following all safety rules including COVID protocols
• Help with the set-up, organization, and take down of applicable sports equipment

Key Qualifications: 

• Eager and willing to learn, ideally interested in learning about starting up and running a business
• Track record and commitment to good sportsmanship
• Personable and friendly
• Loves to get out and play!
